A New Era for Tongaat Hulett

In a bold move towards advancing Africa’s energy landscape, Guma Africa Group has entered into a strategic study agreement with Pertamina New and Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), the renewable energy division of Indonesia’s state energy corporation. This partnership, aimed at exploring the development of a groundbreaking natural gas and power project in South Africa, underscores Guma Africa’s commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions across the continent.

The collaboration was formalised during the prestigious Indonesia-Africa Forum in Bali, where Guma Africa Group’s Executive Chairman, Robert Gumede, and Pertamina NRE CEO, John Anis, signed the agreement. This marks a significant milestone for both companies, as they combine their expertise to address Africa’s energy challenges and support South Africa’s growing demand for reliable power.

For Guma Africa Group, this partnership reinforces its mission to provide innovative, scalable, and sustainable energy solutions to Africa’s communities. By leveraging gas-to-power technology, the joint venture aims to contribute to South Africa's energy security, reducing dependence on less sustainable energy sources and closing critical energy access gaps.

This agreement not only highlights Guma Africa’s leadership in addressing Africa’s power needs but also strengthens its position as a trusted partner in large-scale, future-forward energy projects. It also aligns with Indonesia’s broader initiative to enhance economic ties with African nations, further solidifying Guma Africa’s role in facilitating strategic international partnerships.

As the project progresses through its study phase, it has the potential to become a cornerstone of Africa’s transition to cleaner and more efficient energy infrastructure, contributing to both economic growth and energy independence. With Guma Africa Group at the helm of this transformative initiative, the future of Africa’s energy landscape looks promising.
