African Sustainability: Guma’s Energy Partnership

News

A New Era for Tongaat Hulett

In a step toward strengthening energy solutions in Africa, Guma Group and Indonesia’s Energi Mega Persada (EMP) have agreed to collaborate on a major energy initiative. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will see them work together to explore oil and natural gas opportunities in the Buzi Block of Mozambique.

This partnership was announced during the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Bali, with the South African delegation and Indonesian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Nugraha Mansyuri, present to witness the event.

What’s particularly exciting is that this deal doesn’t stop at energy exploration. The Guma Group is also in talks with Pertamina, another key Indonesian player, to build a power plant in South Africa, as reported by Bloomberg. The gas for this plant would come straight from Mozambique, creating a strong regional energy network that could transform the energy landscape in Southern Africa.

For EMP, this is not their first foray into Mozambique. Taufan Eko Nugroho Rotorasiko, President of Buzi Hydrocarbons, expressed pride in their earlier successes and sees this partnership as another opportunity to cement Indonesia’s role in Africa’s economic development. “This project is not just about energy; it’s about building a bridge between Indonesia and Africa, opening up new doors for both regions,” he said.

Not a real plant. This is a visual representation.

The Guma Group’s involvement reflects its commitment to sustainable development and creating a lasting impact in the energy sector, both in Africa and globally. The deal highlights the potential for cross-border collaboration to address energy shortages and drive growth.
